The Teachers Section – how will it work?

The “Teachers” section of ICC Sportee Cricket is coming very soon! To find out how it will work and for an explanation of the educational and safety strengths of the site, read on!

ICC Sportee Cricket is designed to link to and support the curriculum for pupils aged 7 - 14. It covers all of the core subjects including; mathematics, language, science, geography, and history - as well as helping to develop skills in cross-curricular competences such as nutrition, citizenship, teamwork, and digital literacy. It is a very flexible learning tool that can be used in multiple ways to support in the delivery of your lessons, including: If you are not a cricket fan and don't know your LBW from your duck, don't worry! ICC Sportee Cricket takes care of the entire cricket context so you don't have to. An understanding of Cricket is not required by the teacher (or pupils) for optimised use - the integration of cricket themed content into an educational experience is at all times intuitive, easily understood, and fundamentally rewarding.

Classroom Use: Solo or In Pairs or Groups

ICC Sportee Cricket is designed to be self-explanatory to young users. To help with registration of your class/classes you will be able to easily set up the pupils’ accounts and auto generate their usernames and passwords when you register as a teacher. Pupils are able to play the games on their own, or work in pairs, or groups. You can also get two children to play against each other in a “live” game - you can pick the curriculum subject to be covered in these games.

Classroom Use: Whole-Class (teacher-led)

The games within ICC Sportee Cricket are an engaging and dynamic resource that you will be able to use for class warm-up, testing or plenary work; asking pupils to choose which answer to select or which action to take. Differentiation can be achieved by choosing the level suitable for your class then targeting particular children according to the question.

Homework

ICC Sportee Cricket is a perfect tool for home study. Your students will be able to continue their learning at home by logging on and playing specific games on topics you suggest. The ICC Sportee Cricket fantasy element of the site (where an evolving team is developed and managed) will help to motivate students to keep interacting with the educational content over long periods of time.

Inevitably, your students will have differing degrees of access to the Internet. In light of this, ICC Sportee Cricket has been skilfully designed to encourage and reward continued use of the site at every level of potential usage, from the keenest fan who logs on every evening to the very occasional user.

Tracking Student Progress

One of the most valuable ICC Sportee Cricket features is the ability to track the progress of your students whether they are playing at home or in school. All ongoing usage data is saved within the Results section. You will be able to monitor long term pupil progress by subject and topic, simply by logging in and viewing their stats.

Classroom Incentives

ICC Sportee Cricket is an excellent motivator, its environment is varied, richly interactive and filled with lively characters (some of which will be created by the pupils themselves) and there is plenty of potential for humour, fun, and interesting discussion. Aside from the core interactive themed activities, ICC Sportee Cricket’s appealing content lends itself well to inspiring other related classroom projects (exploring curriculum subjects such as literacy and art) for example; creating posters, or writing up match reports, newsletters, etc.

An in-game virtual currency system rewards pupils for engaging with educational content and allows the purchase of virtual professional cricket players to enhance an evolving representative cricket team. The development of this team (which can be played against other computer or pupil created teams) creates an over-arching motivational focus for the site experience, and will help to increase pupil “ownership” and sense of teamwork in their educational efforts.

Lesson Plans & Activity Sheets

The Teachers section of ICC Sportee Cricket will provide printable curriculum compatible lesson plans and activity sheets. Each supporting lesson plan will reflect the standard structure of a modern lesson with introduction, main activity and plenary. The task of planning a lesson will be simplified for the teacher through highlighting of the learning objectives for the lesson, the list of resources required and assessment criteria. Each plan also identifies the games relevant to that specific lesson. The supporting activity sheets are designed with accessibility and clarity as a primary goal - so pupils will be able to work from them independently. They will also feature multiple levels of difficulty to help address issues of differentiation.

ONLINE SAFETY

The importance of online safety for children cannot be overstated and we take this issue exceptionally seriously. To ensure safety, we have implemented a system which does not allow users to free type communicate to each other unless they already know each other’s email addresses (e.g. they are already friends in the real world). This means that your pupils cannot exchange specific personal information with a stranger in ICC Sportee Cricket.

To explain further: standard (non real world friend) users are still able to communicate with each other in-game – but they can only do so through an innocuous set of preset short phrases we have created – all of which are limited to game content or simple greetings. Therefore, as email address information cannot ever be communicated in game between standard users - strangers are completely unable to send free type messages to each other (at any time). This strong and elegant core safety mechanic therefore eliminates any risk of inappropriate exchanges of information or bullying between strangers. Despite the overarching and extremely strong effectiveness of the core safety mechanic detailed above, we have added additional layers of child protection to further ensure a pleasant and safe experience for all users. These include automated swear filters and a panic button to alert the development team to any inappropriate behaviour.

NB: If you would like us to inform you by email when the Teachers section of ICC Sportee Cricket goes live – simply register on the home page now, or send an email to teachers@motivated.ltd.uk with the subject line “Teachers Section” and we will contact you when the time arrives.
